The Bridge Chicago

The Bridge Chicago is a way to offer the resources of Mission:USA to help people do good ministry.

You aren’t asking for a show
Where I make believe I’ve made it on my own
You aren’t waiting for big words
Where I sound smart enough that now I think I’m heard

You’re just looking for Your child
To be with you by Your side
And to tell You how I feel
And discover once again Your love is real

lyrics from “Cast My Cares”, the featured worship song in May’s Bridge Box.

You Are Not A Defective Person

God did not have a lapse in concentration that lead to a mistake while making you. He wasn’t running low on an ingredient that you were supposed to have.

If God wanted to make a more extroverted you, a less emotional you, a you without whatever you think your deficiencies are, He could have. He made you because you are the perfect version of His divine vision for you.

You have some things you need to work on sure, but that work is an important part of His design as well.

God does not wish that you were a different version of yourself, neither should you.

If you have believed in Jesus, then if you were to die right this second and go before the throne of God, God Himself would find no grounds on which to accuse you of any wrong. That is because Jesus took the penalty and punishment for your Sin. Accusation and punishment are over. It is finished.

In the words of that great social philosopher S.R. Vaughn, “We’re never safe from the truth, but in the truth we can survive.” No matter how painful, it’s not the truth that’s killing us, it’s the lies. The lies we believe become far worse than the painful truths we try to avoid.

Repression is not strength. Strong people feel what they are feeling, and then they deal with it. That will look messy from the outside, and that’s okay.

For Those Who Feel Like They Are Barely Hanging On

“When I said, ‘My foot is slipping,’ your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”

-Psalm 94:18-19

We all have times when we feel like we are barely hanging on in our relationship with the Lord. He is not barely hanging on to you. You are as firm in His grip in those low moments as you ever are.

Walking with Jesus is contrary to our sinful nature. It is tough and it is messy. Luckily, it doesn’t depend on us. It is the grace of God that not only saved us, but sustains us. He is our light on that hard road. He is our guide in this wilderness of a new life.

Just barely making it is still hanging on. Growth happens in fits and spurts. It can be awkward and even painful. When it feels like you are hanging on by just your fingernails, God himself is still holding you up.

-Matt from The Bridge

Ask Us A Question

(missionusa.com/bridgebox)

Let me boil down the whole gospel for you. You didn’t deserve it, God loved you anyway. There are ins-and-outs and details on that that are worth knowing. However, anytime someone tries to take that statement and add a “but” to it, it is time to get up and walk out.

“As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner…Then Jesus said to her, ‘Your sins are forgiven.’” -Luke 7:38-39, 48

A woman came before Jesus a total emotional mess. She was all but unglued. The religious people made it known that they thought this was no way to come before a religious teacher. Jesus disagreed. He pointed out that the religious people were being cold to Him and this woman was doing a beautiful thing. Jesus was not put off by the raw emotional display before Him. He saw the heart within it and loved the person behind it.
