Anonymous asked:
I aborted twins. Will I see my babies in heaven if I get to go?
I answered:
In 2 Samuel chapter 12, King David is weeping and fasting because his newborn child was born ill. The child died within a week, at which point David returned to normal behavior. His servants asked why and he replied, “Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.” (Verse 23). So according to the scriptures, David was confident his child was in Heaven. If we look at another of David’s writing Psalm 139, it talks about how God knew us in our mother’s womb. So I think it is say to say that, as far as scripture says on the matter, yes your children will be in Heaven.
What worries me about your question is the phrase “if I get to go”. That shouldn’t be an uncertainty. And it seems like you believe, so my guess is that somewhere along the line, some christian has told you that having an abortion is an unforgivable sin. That is not true, there is no unforgivable sin. As a matter of fact, there are no classes of sin at all. All sin is falling short of God, and it doesn’t matter in what manner you fall short.
Being saved, and the eternal home that comes with it, is not about what you’ve done. It is about accepting the free gift of God’s grace through Jesus paying for your sin on the cross. Yes, that includes abortions, and anyone who says otherwise is not preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ as laid out in the Bible.
Romans 10:9 says “if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised from the dead, you will be saved.” That’s the criteria, no loopholes, no fine print, no hidden penalties. That is it. Paul was in prison and a guard was about to commit suicide and asked Paul what he must do to be saved. Paul replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus”. That’s the answer, the whole deal.
The offer of life with Jesus and eternity in Heaven is an offer for sinners. Not the “well I cuss sometimes and I only prayed 6 days this week” type of sinners, who are in denial. The offer of grace is for people who know they are sinners: addicts, criminals, adulterers, idolators, sluts, jerks and yes, people who have had abortions. And you can be sure of that home, all you have to do is say, “yes”.
